From BioStar 2 to BioStar X: what to look out for

With BioStar X, Suprema has released a new generation of its platform for access control and time and attendance. If you use BioStar 2 today, the question will come up sooner or later: when do we move, and what does it involve?

Why move?

New features and improvements go into the new version. Moving at a time you choose is also calmer than a forced move when something goes wrong with an ageing server.

What we check first

  • Readers and controllers: are all devices supported, and is new firmware needed?
  • Licenses: which licenses do you have now, and which do you need in the new version?
  • Server: is your current server sufficient, or is new hardware or a different setup wiser?
  • Integrations: for example the link with your payroll or HR system for time and attendance.
  • Data: users, cards, fingerprints and access rights must all come along.

How we go about it

  1. Survey of your installation and a proposal with a schedule
  2. Full backup of the current database
  3. Migration outside office hours, so your staff are not affected
  4. Test of all doors and time and attendance together with your administrator
  5. Short training in the new environment
