Mobile key for hotels: what do you need?

More and more guests expect to open their room with their phone. With a mobile key they skip the front desk, and your team has more time for the guests who do come to the counter.

But what does it take to make this possible in your hotel? Here are the four parts.

1. Locks with Bluetooth

The mobile key works over Bluetooth. Recent Vingcard locks have it built in. For older locks we check whether an upgrade is possible or whether replacement makes more sense. That depends on the lock type and the condition of your doors.

2. The right lock management software

Your lock management software must be able to issue mobile keys. That can be the local software on your own server or Vostio in the cloud. Which fits best depends on your IT and on how many properties you manage.

3. A link with your app or PMS

The guest receives the key in an app: the app of your hotel or chain, or an app that comes with the lock system. We also connect lock management to your property management system, so a key is ready automatically with the reservation.

4. A rollout plan

Start with a pilot on one floor or one wing. Train your front desk, make sure guests without a smartphone simply receive a card, and measure how many guests use the mobile key before you switch the whole hotel.
